Herbarium
Concept Brand · Brand Identity · Illustration · Art Direction · Packaging
Herbarium is a concept botanical brand inspired by Trinidad's rich plant life and the cultural stories held within it. The project explores how illustration, fragrance and storytelling can create a deeper connection between people, place, culture and the natural world.
Trinidad's landscape is filled with plants that have been used for generations in food, medicine, rituals, gardens and everyday life. Yet the knowledge surrounding them is often passed down informally, through families and communities, rather than recorded visually.
Herbarium imagines a brand that brings these stories into the foreground.
The concept takes the traditional idea of a herbarium, a collection used to document and study plants and reimagines it as a contemporary botanical brand.
Instead of simply collecting plants, Herbarium collects the stories, memories and cultural knowledge connected to them.
Plants carry stories.
PACKAGING Bringing the archive to life.
The Herbarium packaging is designed to feel like a collection of botanical specimens, bringing the idea of a preserved archive into a contemporary fragrance experience. Each package uses detailed botanical illustrations as its central visual element, paired with understated typography and considered labelling to give the products the feeling of something carefully collected and documented.
The restrained layouts allow the individual plants to take centre stage, while the consistent system across the collection creates a sense of cohesion and discovery. Together, the packaging bridges the worlds of botanical documentation and contemporary fragrance, making each product feel like a small piece of Trinidad’s natural and cultural landscape.
Nature, documented through illustration.
The visual identity draws from the visual language of botanical archives and natural history collections, but gives it a more expressive and contemporary character.
Rather than using photography to represent the plants, detailed illustrations become the primary storytelling device.
This allows each plant to become a recognisable character within the brand while creating a visual connection between the products.
