A hero video for Global Encryption Day, created to show how encryption protects people in their everyday lives. Using comic inspired illustration, character-led storytelling and animation, the film turns an often technical and difficult to understand subject into a series of relatable scenarios.
THE INSIGHT
People don't necessarily need to understand how encryption works to understand why they need it.
By moving away from technical explanations and focusing on familiar, everyday situations, the film could show the practical role encryption plays in protecting people and their information. This made the subject feel less like an abstract piece of technology and more like something that quietly supports everyday life.
THE CONCEPT
ENCRYPTION IN EVERYDAY LIFE
The film takes viewers through a series of illustrated scenarios, each showing a different moment where encryption can help protect people.
From private conversations to personal information, each scene tells a small story that demonstrates the benefit of encryption without needing to explain the technology behind it. Together, the scenarios build a wider picture of encryption as an essential part of a safe and connected digital world.
THE CHALLENGE
Encryption plays an important role in protecting people's privacy, communication and personal information, but the technology behind it can be difficult to explain to audiences without a technical background. The challenge was to communicate its everyday value without relying on jargon or lengthy explanations.
The film needed to quickly demonstrate why encryption matters to real people, while remaining engaging enough to hold attention and work as an accessible introduction to the subject.
THE VISUAL LANGUAGE
The campaign takes inspiration from comic books, using illustrated environments, expressive characters, speech bubbles and on-screen typography to give the information a familiar and engaging visual language.
The camera pans through each environment, revealing different characters and scenarios as the story unfolds. Comic-style panels, speech bubbles and graphic transitions help break information into digestible moments, while the illustrated world gives the film a sense of energy and personality.
The result is a visual approach that makes a potentially dry or technical subject feel human, accessible and entertaining.
