An animated explainer for the Toyota Mobility Foundation, created to communicate its human-centred approach to developing mobility technologies and systems. Using a combination of footage, graphics, illustration, on-screen text, and simple visual metaphors, the film turns complex information into an accessible story about how mobility can respond to real human needs.
THE INSIGHT
Technology can feel distant when we only see the systems behind it. By starting with real human needs and everyday experiences, the story becomes easier to understand and gives the technology a clear purpose. This created an opportunity to show mobility not simply as a technological challenge, but as a tool for creating greater independence, connection and opportunity.
THE CONCEPT
PUTTING PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE OF MOBILITY
The film follows a series of human scenarios to demonstrate how mobility challenges can affect everyday life. Rather than explaining the technology in isolation, the narrative shows how innovation can respond to these challenges and create new possibilities for people. Each scenario helps build a wider picture of how different solutions can work together to make mobility more accessible and inclusive.
THE CHALLENGE
Mobility innovation can involve complex technologies, systems and ideas that aren't always easy to communicate to a general audience. The challenge was to create an explainer that could clearly introduce Toyota Mobility Foundation's work while keeping the focus on the people and communities it aims to support. The film needed to balance clarity with storytelling, making the subject engaging without oversimplifying the ideas behind it.
THE VISUAL LANGUAGE
A playful illustrated style makes the subject feel approachable, using simplified environments, expressive characters and visual metaphors to communicate ideas without overwhelming the viewer. A flexible graphic system allows different technologies, environments and characters to sit within the same visual world. Animation brings these elements together through fluid transitions and character movement, creating a clear visual journey from challenge to possibility.
